Alan Burns calls Smyrna, Georgia his hometown and is married to his high school sweetheart, Faye, who is also from Smyrna. They have two daughters, Ashley and Andrea, who are both Lee University graduates as is Faye. Ashley is married to Chris Fox, also a Lee graduate, and they have two children, Jordan and Brady.
Alan is a “Ramblin Reck” as he graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree. He also received a Masters of Science in Operations Research/Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School and a MBA from Golden Gate University.
Alan served in the U S Navy for 10 years as a Naval Flight Officer flying F-4 Phantoms while serving on the USS Forrestal and the USS Nimtz. He has owned his own business and has work experience in the Real Estate and Financial Planning arenas.
Alan joined the Lee Business Department faculty in 1979 and enjoys teaching Introduction to Business, Personal Finance, Principles of Investments, Principles of Risk Management and Insurance, Production Operations Management, and Quantitative Methods.
Alan enjoys working with students and he has received the Business Department’s Advising Award. His research interests are in the area of personal financial planning and the effects of tax law changes on small businesses and individuals.
Alan’s hobbies include traveling, financial planning, the stock market, flying, and playing with his grandchildren, Jordan and Brady. Alan considers himself to be both a family man and patriot, extremely devoted to Lee University, his family and nation.
