II. Assignment
In this paper, you will compare Menzies and Turner on the
role of tongues in Luke-Acts. First, read the selections from
Menzies and attempt to outline his position noting the
strongest points he makes. Think about the attachment of
tongues to Spirit baptism and how Menzies argues in support of
the Pentecostal position that tongues are the initial physical
evidence. Second, read the selections from Turner and attempt
to outline his position. Once again try to pinpoint the
strongest points that Turner makes. Why does Turner consider
the Pentecostal position to be wrong? What is the role of
tongues in Luke-Acts for Turner? Finally, you should stake out
your own position, indicating whether you agree with Menzies,
Turner or both. As part of this final section, you need to
offer arguments to support your position. The arguments could
be drawn from Menzies or Turner, or they could be your own.
The Assignment is due April 15.
