The Past:
August 19, 1886, The call for Christian union was made. The call was
this
"As many
Christians as are here present that are desirous to be free from all men
[sic] made creeds and traditions, and are willing to take the New
Testament, or law of Christ, for your only rule of faith and practice;
giving each other equal rights and privilege to read and interpret for
yourselves as your conscience may dictate, and are willing to set [sic]
together as the church of God to transact business at the same. come
forward." - The Last Great Conflict, pp.
185-186
The Present: Today the Church of
God affirms this same call.
"...it is now
declared and reaffirmed that we accept and stand for the whole Bible
rightly divided, and for the New Testament as our rule of faith and
practice..." - Church of God Minutes
2004,
p.86
The
Future: The dreams of tomorrow are yet to
be known but we are striving to "create new solutions for effective
ministry" (Charting the Course, p.13) to fulfill our mission to
"perpetuate the full gospel of Jesus Christ in the Spirit and power of
Pentecost." - Church of God Minutes 2004, p.101
