1886
On August 19, 1886, the Christian Union is organized in Monroe County, Tennessee, with 8 members.  R. G. Spurling, son of Elder Richard Spurling, becomes pastor of the group.
1892
Baptist deacon W. F. Bryant begins prayer meetings in his home.
1896
Over 100 people are baptized in the Holy Ghost in Cherokee County with evidence of speaking in tongues and divine healing. The Tennessee and North Carolina groups unite as a single congregation. Persecution begins.
1900
False teachers preach strange doctrines that cause many converts to leave the group.
1902
On May 15, the Holiness Church at Camp Creek is organized by R.G. Spurling and Frank Porter.
1903
On June 13, A. J. Tomlinson joins the church and becomes pastor.
1904
Three new congregations are established, two in Tennessee and one in Georgia.
1906
On January 26-27, the 1st Annual Assembly meets in the home of J. C. Murphy, Cherokee County, North Carolina. Most of the leaders of the church move to Cleveland, Tennessee, where a church is organized on October 10. On April 9, 1906 the Pentecostal Movement begins at Azusa Street in Los Angeles, California.
1907
On January 11, at the 2nd Annual Assembly, the church adopts the name Church of God.
