Auditions for the Lee University School of Music:

Step 1: Scheduling Your Audition

• Auditions for the Lee University School of Music are typically held at all Lee Day and Frontline events. Lee Day and Frontline events are opportunities to you, as a prospective student, to take a campus tour and learn more about Lee University, as well as an opportunity for you to audition for the School of Music. The dates for these events can be found at the Lee University “Prospective Students” page at:

• After selecting a Frontline or Lee Day date that is most convenient for you, please call the Lee University School of Music office and ask to speak with someone who can schedule you for an audition time and date. The number for the Lee University School of Music office is: (423) 614-8240.

• Auditions for the Lee University School of Music are also held during our annual Summer Music Camp. Lee University Summer Music Camp is a wonderful opportunity for you to experience some of the School of Music’s ensembles, faculty, and music classes. • If you are unable to find a Frontline, Lee Day, or Summer Music Camp date that is convenient for you to audition, please feel free to call the Lee University School of Music office and ask to speak with someone who can schedule you for a separate audition date at (423) 614-8240.

 

Step 2: What to Prepare

• All 12 Major Scales (two octaves, if possible)

• Chromatic Scale (two octaves, if possible)

• Prepared Piece of choice (audition pieces for Regional/All-State levels will be acceptable):

• If selecting a solo piece to audition, please choose a solo work of the level of the following pieces:

Step 3: What to Expect When Auditioning for the School of Music

• Try to remain relaxed and as calm as possible. Remember: the faculty members want you to play well! We’re pulling for you!

• There will be approximately three to four faculty members present to hear your audition.

• You will be asked by the faculty to play several scales.

• You will then be asked to perform your prepared piece.

• The faculty would then like for you to read a brief sight-reading example. A very helpful resource for improving your sight-reading can be found at:
