Oriented Toward Achievement
As a freshman at any school, it is easy to feel overwhelmed.  You might even have a moment of doubt about your own success as a college student.  Here at Lee University, we desire to see our students succeed.  As such, a program designed especially for highly motivated freshmen was created to challenge, engage, and expand their first-year experience.  Through classes and activities, 25 students of the Freshman Honors Corps are invited to explore the vast potential of higher education while building lasting personal relationships.

Selection into the Corps
If you are a Centennial or Presidential Scholar, you will be mailed an application to begin the selection process.  You are asked to fill out a basic background assessment sheet, and to submit a thoughtful essay.  This is your opportunity to express who you are as well as why you would make an excellent honors corps candidate.  Academics and test scores are important, but the committee seeks to select well-rounded and ambitious students.

Lots of fun….

Classes
Honors Corps participants are placed in three honors courses and one cohort course:

Environmental Science
This course will aim towards instilling an understanding of how/what scientifically based points of view have contributed to the current climate of discussion regarding the environment. 4 hrs.

Understanding Contemporary Politics
This course provides an introduction to the essentials of the art of politics.  In order to do this it will focus on all aspects of what is political: the practical and the theoretical, the domestic and the international, the historic and the present day, the individual, the group, and the institutional, the United States system as well as other political systems.  The aim is to prepare students to be responsible citizens of their own state and of our modern world.    3 hrs.

Gateway to University Success
This course is designed to help transition first-year students into the Christian university community. 2 hrs.

About the classes…
“As a biochemistry major, I was initially concerned that the FHC classes would set me back.  However, all the classes turned out to be ones that I needed to take as part of the general
core.”                                      Josh Bell

FAQ on the FHC

1. Will being in honors affect my scheduling of classes?
Each of the three honors classes is a core class.  After you are accepted, you will be mailed a copy of your newly-arranged schedule, and Lee will be glad to work with you to arrange your individual major needs.

2. Will the honors take up too much time?
The honors corps classes will require as much time as most other classes you will have at Lee.  The extracurricular activities are strategically placed throughout the fall semester to ensure that you have plenty of time to interact with other students and become involved with other organizations.

Lasting Friendships....
"FHC was the highlight of my life! Four FHC'ers in one dorm suite equals peace and happiness forever."
